The surfer-gilr with one arm....

....was on the Teen Choice Awards this weekend. Before I turn my attention to the award show, I was just wondering how it feels for someone who is handicapped to come out on a show that professes to be the arbiter of cool (I mean, it is an award show - she was winning for Best Teen Courage!) and trip and fall??!! I mean to trip and fall and already have one arm?

Was she humiliated or is that a stupid question? Is living with one arm as a beautiful teenager the nadir of coolness as a surfer, anyway and this is just something small she takes in stride and or is she the champion of cool - being cool despite it all and this was a blow to that reputation?

She might be one of those cool kids who have been through so much adversity that they seem "cooler" for tripping and not letting them nick the coolness armor...maybe....

it would crush me, but I am a mere mortal, one who doesn’t profess to be cool - or thin and blonde....

I didn’t watch the Teen Choice Awards, but did anyone old enough to dress themselves for school? I do know however that when it comes to celebrity watching it is fantastically important.

Case in point: Paris Hilton.

Yes, having a "hit" anything will make you sought after in "Hollywood" but it wont make you invincible. You run the eternal risk of being a one hit wonder or a two hit wonder or the more honorable, but no more lucrative "flash in the pan." Paris Hilton is showing a new generation what "celebrity as a celebrity" REALLY means.

Yea, in the old days Zsa Zsa and the rest of ‘em were famous at it, but Paris shows the progression of celebrity worship in our country.

She is rich (and wealth worship is stronger than ever) so she doesn't need the celebrity, but being spoiled and rich and thin and blonde is just TOOOOOO much for America not to love and hate and therefore CANNOT get enough of.

I love watching celebrities. Especially for no good reason. Paris makes that MORE than possible......
